Preparations
are already in full swing with some innovations thrown in.
Friends
of rallying worldwide – and of historic rally cars in particular
– should highlight the date of July 27th/29th, 2023 in their
diaries. Between those dates, the Volcanic Eifel region around
Daun will once again be transformed into a mobile rally museum.
More than
one hundred
and fifty
rally cars,
either originals or faithfully
built contemporary replicas, will be exhibited on the Rally
Mile in Daun. Out on the demonstration stages in the Eifel hills
around Daun, fans can see these rally cars in live action and
delight in the visual and acoustic experience. Although the rally
cars are the stars of the Eifel Rallye Festival, their former
drivers, and many other people from the past of this fascinating
sport are also drawn to Daun every year to enjoy this
international reunion of the rally scene.
Planning
for the Festival is already underway, and the key framework has
been established. "The shakedown on
Thursday in
the 'Kelberger Land'
will be
followed, as in the past, by the Welcome Evening with open-air cinema
operating in the Rally Mile," explains Otmar Anschütz,
organiser of the Festival and chairman of the organising club, the
MSC Daun. "For Friday's and Saturday's stages, we are
focusing on keeping to the tried and tested stages that have been
enjoyed by the crews and the fans, but we are also keen on
offering innovations for both groups. There will certainly be some
surprises for them."
Reinhard
Klein who, as head of the group of historic rally car owners known
as ‘Slowly Sideways’, is responsible for the composition of
the field of participants. He says:
“In the previous
ten editions
of our
Festival, we have
made huge
strides in
the quality and variety of the participating rally cars. We
want to continue on this path consistently
in the future. It
has been fascinating for
me to discover which unique gems from
the history
of rallying
we could
already present
here. But
there are
still many more to uncover – and we are working on
that."
